I was kinda worry about get this one based on mixed opinions here in the comments, but I had to tried it by myself. As all japan LP pressing is amazing very silent, but the sound quality on this one is not really as good as expected for Japan release, I find this version dull and totally lack of dynamics compared with American pressing of 1977 https://discogs.programascracks.com/release/495664-Pink-Floyd-Animals.

I have a super clean copy of this release that I picked up used in Japan back in the mid 2000s. Gave it listen today. I think is sounds great. I also have an original US pressing (promo stamped copy) https://discogs.programascracks.com/release/6803674-Pink-Floyd-Animals that I just listened to. I find it very comparable to this Japanese pressing. I think the bass sounds a bit better on the US pressing.

        Hi all,

I saw some beautiful and expensive Mint sealed copies listed here. Just want to warn you about my story...

A friend of mine picked-up for me a so called "Mint sealed" copy of a Japanese press in Paris () from a store which is listing here and many others "Mint sealed" nice records.

My friend is not a collector/expert and despite the shrink had been opened and the record checked, he didn't see the very light hairlines and spindle marks difficult to see at day light.

The record is more or less NM all around and an insert was missing. It costed me probably twice the price I should have been paying for. It's not bad grading, it's simply robbery.

So, be careful, famous old records still sealed are pretty rare on the market. Only real collectors and very serious stores like some I'm in touch with in Japan and the US can be trusted. And unfortunately more and more robbers like that shop in Paris are re-sealing records to make more money faster. I gave it a try. Too bad for me. A second try is not necessary, just don't buy anything from that guy.

It’s the best pressing I’ve heard but it’s still only as good as the original recording that we all know was pretty average. Maybe the recording was intentional so given that- this pressing is maybe the purest form. I like it but animals won’t ever be a daily spin. Mine is pretty dynamic but needs a good bass boost without question- otherwise very mid and upper centric.

Very controversial release for me in of sound. The packaging is superb - thick gatefold cardboard, outstanding print quality.
But the sound.. Till this moment I've had 2018 Remix version, and it sounded very spacious, impressive and immersive. This Japanese version sounds embarrassing - definitely muddier, with significantly less instruments separation, narrower soundstage etc. It sounds like that with the same epithets even regardless of the comparison with fore mentioned release.
One of the advantages is good vocals and guitar elaboration. And that's it for me..
I'm a fan of Japanese first presses - Pink Floyd's especially. And almost all of them sounds perfect. But this release is some kind of a flaw for me. Five stars for the packaging and three for the sound.

Just bought the 2016 remaster, just to see how it compares to this, what I've always believed was the best pressing I've heard - and this is still the best, the 2016 sounding ok, but being overall a bit muted and less engaging - the bass eq'd to the point where the drums are muddier, with a lot less air to them - David's guitar has less bite and is not as clear and ripping as on this pressing, and the vocals are not as forward and cutting as well - this pressing still reigns supreme......!

This pressing ranks as a very big disappointment among my many Pink Floyd albums. Limited dynamics, small soundstage, minimal separation, a lack of rich bass and sparkling highs have this one celebrated for the OBI only. Both the '77 Pittman and the 2016 remaster sound superior on my systems, so be cautious when reading the hype. I've acquired 2 and both are the same. The vinyl is very quiet and it tracks quite well, but this has less of everything.

i’ve got this and an original uk press. i will say off rip the uk press is a heavier thick vinyl while this had a little give to it. that being said the sound was very very comparable, both are rich in sound with great separation of instrumentation. i may prefer my uk copy just because it being thicker provides a complete fullness that this one i had to turn up to achieve the same feeling. i’ll always be a fan of japanese pressings for their insterts and always at least gonna be a pretty great sound. even if its not as good as other countries, id say its better than the US one

Some people like boosts to the high end, some don't! I don't think it's a matter of better or worse with the pressings of this album. The detail on the mids are great on this one, and the newer pressings have more "air." I suppose its just a matter of taste at this point because both sound wonderful...Not a bad place to be.

I disagree with some reviews, this Japanese pressing sounds fantastic, dead quiet and full of dynamics, the acoustic and electric guitars sound with a rich mid range, I noticed some piano textures from Richard Wright that I haven't noticed before. I can hear Roger Waters singing in my living room.
2016 remaster is really good as well but this Jap sounds better for me.
