Notes
First proper album by Swans - originally released on vinyl only by Neutral Records in the US and licensed to Zensor for German/European release. This recording has later been reissued in a bewildering variety of formats and versions.
The early 1990's saw it reissued in “re-equalized” form by Young God Records as “Filth L.P. # 1 1983” on vinyl, as well as part of the Michael Gira.
In 2000 the album was included in Young God Records series of 2CD compilations, this time pairing it with a 1991 compilation of unreleased studio and live tracks and released as Swans EP included on the original CD reissue but instead a live recording from the time of the album.
Filth was officially reissued on vinyl again in 2014 in a newly remastered form, by Young God Records in the US and as a collaboration with Mute Records in the UK/Europe - this time under its original name. In 2015 this was followed by a remastered 3CD deluxe reissue combining all the material from the previous versions – thus containing both the original album and Swans EP and additional live recordings from the period.
A bootlegged version mimicking the original Neutral Records version also exists.

Some surface noise that isn't noticeable due to how noisy the record is, a good amount of bass and clarity between instruments, overall a very good pressing. -

mine came with some slight warping but still plays just fine. the record itself sounds pristine, no pops are heard on my system (at lp70x) -

Just spun this record for the first time after listening for countless times on streaming services. The mix sounds decidedly rawer and more abrasive than what appears online. I assume that the digitized versions (and probably new pressings) have been remastered in some form. I prefer the raw sound of this pressing. Play LOUD for full effect. -

no posters in my version of it and the cardboard is not very high quality either… kinda disappointed but otherwise it’s a good reissue i guess -

It seems like there is an additional cd version not listed in discogs currently. If ebay is any indication, it is the most common cd version, a version released in 1990 by YG alongside their vinyl reissues - https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=swans+cd+filth&_sacat=0&_odkw=swans+cd&_osacat=0 -

I have a strange amalgamation where the matrix matches a different version (Swans - Filth) while the jacket matches this entry, strangely with a "made in the united kingdom" sticker on the back of the jacket even though this is a German release? Anyone have insight? -

Sounds great. The record is completely flat and surprisingly clean. Packaging's ok. -

Color variant aside, this is a very nice sounding record.
Well, “nice,” I guess. It’s got loads of dynamic range, is flat and quiet, and is very crankable. -

Swans brings us a vinyl reissue of the fun-fest known as Filth! Excellent sound overall; loud and punchy. I'm sure the neighbors were happy! I can only compare with 1990s YGR CD reissue/comp. However, this is good enough for me. Although not from my favorite era of Swans, I do enjoy going back to hear young Gira howling away at the world... and the occasional sludgy pummeling (which gets even better on their next album).
