Ultramagnetic MC's – Critical Beatdown

Not sure what the heck tomwebb101 is talking about. I just listened to the entire album and holy crap. Sounds incredible. Both records. Quiet as hell (again, not sure what that dude is talking about) with virtually no crackles/pops/hissing whatsoever. EQ, dynamics, soundstage, everything sounds fantastic. Honestly couldn’t have asked for more. Nice warm, deep, punchy lows. Solid crisp, bright highs. Completely flat/no warping. Rad looking radioactive green wax. As with the rest of my MOV pressings, this thing rules. No complaints. Solid 9/10 pressing.

No pops or clicks. Super quiet. I want to listen to the yellow pressing just because everyone hyped it up so much, but this shit sounds great. Great pressing. YOU WACK MCS!!!!!

MOV is usually a very dependable label. Indeed the 2021 black and yellow vinyl copies of this are reference quality pressings. The yellow vinyl is so quiet its a minor miracle. As a big fan of this album i had to collect the green copy here but it sadly continues a 2year worrying trend where MOV put out a crackly, ticcy fest of a record! Ive had this with a few of their presses and after many returns deduced while runs to be defective and so id avoid this one and seek the black or yellow copies which are exquisitely pressed!

Volume drops noticeably on 'One Minute Less' and 'Ain't It Good To You'. It's also a fairly quiet pressing. Not as bad as FYHU (same label) but you do have to turn the volume up and then more again on other tracks, which then means the vocals are too high! This, of course, is an all to common issue with late 80's early 90's hip hop, which were often mastered very tight/quietly due to track lengths. Such a shame.

Haven´t heard it in many years, don´t know why. This still sounds great, the beats, the rhymes, the in places pretty daring sampling, the scratching, overall a time capsule of that era for sure. Ced Gee still isn´t a good MC, but within the crew and placed in that content, he works ok, the real star is of course Kool Keith, who rhymed not as wild, bizarre and let loose like he did later, especially when he started his solo career, but he quotes Rakim and who loves Hip Hop and doesn´t know this classic should rush to cope a copy.

I'm not so sure that this is a bootleg. The mastering and pressing are excellent. If I recall correctly think I bought it from HMV early 2000's

Doesn't get any better. Just before sampling became a restricted practice the Ultramagnetics perfected the art and produced an unrivaled masterpiece. The fact that the album is so raw is what makes it perfect. Kool Keith is hip hop royalty and this demonstrates why.

Bar the colour everything as awesome as the yellow ltd edition!
