I wonder if someone can help me to identify the versions on CD's 6 & 7 of the 'Re-Loaded 45th Anniversary Edition' on QoBuz, please?
https://play.qobuz.com/album/0603497884599
The first 5 are identified clearly & match what is on my physical set, but CD's 6 & 7 seem to be the regular album although what versions they are is frankly a mystery & I am not familiar enough with this album to be able to identify them.
I suspect one is the original master (CD 7, because of the timings matching against my old Atlantic CD version) but I don't know what version CD 6 is. and a lot of the tracks are longer too. For example:
Who Loves The Sun - 2:56 (9 seconds longer)
Sweet Jane - 4:23 (1:05 longer)
Rock & Roll - 4:49 (9 seconds longer)
Cool It Down - 3:54 (50 seconds longer)
New Age - 5:52 (1:12 longer)
Lonesome Cowboy Bill - 2:59 (15 seconds longer & in a different place to the original)
I Found A Reason - 4:14 (2 seconds shorter & in a different place to the original)
Head Held High - 3:00 (2 seconds shorter & in a different place to the original)
Train Round The Bend - 4:30 (1:09 longer)
Oh! Sweet Nuthin' - 7:26 (3 seconds longer)
Some of the discrepancies will be because of a different tape transfer of course, as no 2 machines ever ran at quite the same speed (which is why tones were present - or should have been - of course) but there are the much longer versions plus the running order discrepancies.
It's fascinating though, and I would welcome someone please telling me what the QoBuz 'CD 6' version is. -
This is an amazing set that is well worth the purchase based on disc 3, which includes demos and alternative mixes, and the outstanding book. Disc 2 with the legendary promotional mono mix is pretty special too. It is a shame this set is now out of print, but if you are a fan of the late Velvet Underground and early Lou Reed solo eras, get it!
