Aphex Twin, Richard D. James, is one of the most innovative techno/electronica artists out there today. Many people say that his Selected Ambient Works 85-92 is his best, while others say his EP, Come to Daddy. Personally, I like I Care Because You Do as his best, but you have others saying that The Richard D. James album is the best. I think it is his most experimental and innovative. James is a master at putting together beautiful ambient melodies with harsh, dissonant sounds. However, he takes this to the extreme on this CD with a "drill and bass" approach. This is not an easy album to listen to but then again this is what makes him so unique. It is so intense that I wouldn't recommend listening to this several days in a row because it could probably cause you to go crazy. I give it 4 stars because it is so hard to listen to; however, it is a brilliant and bold statement made by one of the greatest musicians of recent times. -
In my opinion, Alberto Balsalm is the best song RDJ ever wrote. There are plenty of reasons to prefer a dozen other tracks based on personal preference (your favorite RDJ tune is also awesome!) but just as a melodic and rhythmic composition, DAMN.

Edited 9 years agoNot a popular opinion, but this is one of my favorites from RDJ. Kind of an antithesis to SAW Vol II, going for loud and abrasive acid techno instead of the quiet ambient of SAW II. Not for the faint of heart, especially Ventolin.
