Notes
US 1st pressing from Specialty Records Corporation, featuring Robert Ludwig's "hot" mastering on both sides. These were withdrawn early because the high bass levels caused low-grade cartridges to mistrack, leading people to return the album on the belief that it was defective.
Packaged in the standard gatefold cover with Atlantic inner sleeve.
Some copies came with one or two hype stickers: One mentioning Whole Lotta Love and the other with a track listing.
Label rim-text reads: Mfg By Atlantic Recording Corp., 1841 Broadway, New York, N.Y.
Runout data is hand scribed with the exception of the SRC logo, which is stamped.
The LW marking is orientated 90 degrees in comparison to the other markings.

Mine has the same matrix, but also etched "PLAY LOUDEST!" by the matrix. Anyone has any info on this? It's on both sides.

I’ve always read the pressing with AT in the runouts were not the original hot mix. Is that true in this case here or not for this pressing? It seems people are raving about it but it goes against everything I’ve learned about RL Zep II. Even the runout is bigger whereas all the Hot Mix presses have shorter runouts.
Any input would be appreciated. -
I only fell in love with this album with the 2014 remaster, so I was a little concerned that the difference would sound as extreme to me as what most people describe as I never had the weak early pressings to compare to. I needn't have worried. It's stunning, breathtaking. All the sounds just have that little bit extra richness and nuance of expression, and the cumulative effect is staggering.
Can also specifically concur with what has been often said on this one, VG quality was a complete non-issue. There's just so much depth and richness of sound even on something like "Thank You" that a little bit of surface noise just didn't matter in the least. -
These Specialty Presses (SRC) Sound just as Good if Not Better than Most Presswell's.They Rival all MONARCH Presses as Well!! These are really Under-Rated and Under Priced!! Listen to One,Better Yet have an A/B Shootout!!

I’m one of the lucky ones who has this, but with RL SS on both sides. I thought the Piros cut was as good as this album will get, my goodness I was wrong. Although, I will say, I hope everyone who don’t want to take a chance finding RL copies should own a George Piros copy. Both are very close to each other imo, but the RL SS copy I have has so many scuffs yet sounds absolutely fresh, it’s true when they said the music overpowers the surface noise

If you go to burntable.com and search for 11292526 you can hear variant 4 in hi-res. It's truly amazing. There are a few different led zeppelin II on there if you want to compare. The later "tamed" pressings are really a shame. The reissue is good, though.

As someone who owns three RLs in varying condition from different pressing plants, I can confirm it's the same mix and mastering. I found this SP pressing to show the same exciting dynamic range that my MO and pressings did. However, after a quick A/B of "Heartbreaker" and "Bring It Home", I found the MO pressing to be a bit heavier bass-wise. Bottom line, though, is to find one VG or better. You'll love it, no regrets.

On the contrary, I think it's just as good. Sounds powerful. It just represents where it was pressed, not mixed? same mix right? I don't get it either.
-
Just wondering if anyone has any info on way this RL specialty pressing doesn’t get the love the other RL pressings do? Is it not as good?
