Notes
2023 repress of the 2012 reissue. Includes a 36-page full-color art book featuring band member notes, photos, and credits, and a 28-page lyric book with illustrations.
Differences to the 2012 reissue:
The upper and lower spine of the boxes contain different details. The most obvious is, that half a star can be seen on both, the top and bottom of the 2012 box. This is missing on the 2023 box. Other details, that are difficult to see, are also different. For example, a woman's head is in a different place and rotated by 180 degrees.
On the back of the box:
On the shrink wrap, you may find a 'Made in ' sticker.
In the art book, page 32, column reissue:
Design thanks: Charisse Kelly, Jenifer Biniek, Louisiana Research Collection, Mary Ann Estes, Tulane University
Label rim:

Sounds amazing! zero surface noise, full rich sound, flat and quiet. Excellent packaging.
The soundtrack of my teenage years!! -
Weird about this one is that the first side have much worse sound quality than any other side of this album. Pretty muddy sound without any crispiness in sound at all. It gets better on other sides but I'm pretty sure it could sound much better.

Edited 7 months agoPresentation is outstanding as everyone has already mentioned.
The mastering, however, is a different story. It’s compressed to death especially on LP 1 (which literally has all the hit loud tracks like Jellybelly and Zero). It gets better on the other discs but still quite underwhelming. The softer songs sound better tho (i.e 1979).
I found this box set for $45 CAD so I guess I am moderately happy. However, paying anything more than that is absolutely a waste only from an objective sonic quality.

Edited 8 months agoBought this on Amazon US for close to 70 dollars (without shipping costs). Weird that it was the european pressing but I don't mind.
For the presentation alone, this boxset is worth the price if you love this album. Everything is perfect and beautiful and the discs are clean and free of noise/pops.
My main complain is for the mastering of the album. I get that a lot of 90s rock was not recorded and mixed for audio fidelity, but it seems like they did not care for how this would sound in vinyl. The heavy songs are muddy, the bass is overblown, mids and voices are soft and the volume is low. My Alice in Chains reissues sound excellent and these types of bands should strive for that quality when releasing LPs.
In summary, it is a very good boxset for the fans with good price but expect to be disappointed if you want great sound quality. -

What an amazing sounding record - one I've wanted for years. Everything about this is just stellar, the presentation, the artwork, the extras. Couldn't ask for more.

Excellent packaging and extras. Vinyl is heavy, flat, and quiet.
You can still buy this for $99.99 out there, so don’t pay these people any more, but this fantastic release should be on your list. -
First, shout out to bibadu for creating this much-needed entry for this Optimal variant reissue. And what a thorough entry it is.
Pressing is outstanding - flat, centered, clean, quiet. That's all I can really say. Mix and master sound stellar. Maybe these will be in print forever. Maybe not. Didn't want to find out, personally.
