This is the infamous concert at Reims Cathedral, , where 6,000 attendees showed up with only max capacity for 3,000. TD were banned from ever playing there again for reasons explained on this release. This was a historical event in the evolution of TD—very cool to have it on vinyl. Comes as a 2XLP on ‘stained glass’ picture discs. My copy plays clean except for a small ‘pop’ at the beginning of Side D. Otherwise good sound quality with no issues. Sounds like a studio album. As someone else mentioned, the artwork is boring—quite a letdown on that front. Includes two printed inner sleeves, but nothing too fancy. Also a matte gatefold cover which I’m reluctant to touch too much because it looks prone to getting dirty, BUT the attached booklet is a GREAT read. I’m usually not big on liner notes but this is very well written without all the ‘verbal masturbation’—pretty straight forward with the basic details leading up to the concert, the concert itself, and a little history following. The booklet really brings it all together for this release—nice to read while listening. If you’re a TD fan, I highly recommend getting this. Performed and recorded in 1974—around the same period of Phaedra, Rubycon, Ricochet.

Pretty satisfied with my copy, as far as picture discs go. I gave it a velvet brush dry cleaning before playing. There are a few pops every now and again, but really not that bad at all. Didn't take away any enjoyment from my listening experience, at least. The included material is a fantastic performance of what TD was doing in the era, a pleasure to listen to if you enjoy the Phaedra/Rubycon period.
The packaging and the included booklet are really fantastic. Great package overall, only nitpick is the album cover art is boring. The discs look really fantastic with the varied stained glass rosettes.

Found this yesterday in a box filled with lots of unpopular RSD leftovers and had to grab it. Both records are flat and sound surprisingly good for picture discs. Good packaging as well. Overall I'm happy with it, though, I'd be happier if it wasn't a picture disc release.

Edited 3 years agoGuess I'm lucky, as my copy has no pops and clicks whatsoever, even before letting the Ultrasonic do its magic. The artwork on the records is fantastic. The text inlay from Wouter, who is really an authority for especially that Tangerine Dream time period, is a nice read, but could go on for a few more pages. My record dealer charged me a hefty sum on RSD, but all in all, I'm happy to have added this to the TD collection.

I was anticipating this release with great expectations...packaging is excellent with gatefold cover and booklet integrated. However the picture disks are very noisy with pops and clicks plaguing all 4 sides. This is disappointing to day the least. I wish they had foregone the picture disk route and just gave us quiet black vinyl pressings instead. An opportunity lost.

Opened mine today and as others commented it was a bit noisy, but then a loud repetitive pop started about 5 minutes in. Removed the record and held on an angle to the light only to see an almost 1" long deep scratch on the record. How does a brand new record come with scratches? Quality control lately has been poor across many pressings. This is the 5th RSD purchase from this Drop alone that had a fairly significant defect (warps, off-center pressings, center holes not big enough)

Edited 3 years agoGorgeous picture discs that actually doesn't sound bad for a picture disc. My favorite of the RSD Drop 1, 2021 bunch. Concert is legendary and phenomenal, two spectacular sets, each building in intensity. Great booklet, gatefold, just wonderfully done. I wonder if the Nico set exists in a recording somewhere?

Excellent album and beautiful pressing. It is a picture disc so expect some surface noise, but after I cleaned it well it improved a lot. I also highly recommend reading the booklet built into the jacket. Lots of great photos and essays.

Edited 3 years agoA long overdue missing link between Phaedra, Rubicon and Ricochet, bringing together both elements of the transition, starting to evolve the hypnotic rhythms we loved them for. Restored beautifully from the master tapes.
