That blend of Brothers Vibe - Manos Libre and Vainqueur - Elevation will forever live in my head rent free.

Well worth a (re)visit this mix. Ricardo mixes aren't mad common given how long he's been rocking around. And it is an interesting reminder of how different the range of "minimal" sets could be.

A timeless, surprisingly varied selection of tracks mixed to perfection by a pre-superstardom Ricardo. Along with the Cassy Panorama Bar set, one of the best mix cd’s of that decade.

Seven years on, and I would still place this CD in my top three mixes of all time. Villalobos really shows his genius and understanding of percussive rhythms to put the listener in that all too familiar state of head-nodding and dancing. Starting and ending with a rare Joris Vermeiren, Villalobos takes us on a journey climaxing exactly in the middle, where there is an absolutely fantastic merge between the Afro-Rhythms of Brothers’ Vibe and the Dub Techno of Basic Channel.
There’s also space for the epic Dexter off the Alcachofa album released a couple of months after this mix CD. I’ve always had trouble placing this in the middle of a set, due to it’s melancholic nature, but he pulls it off, culminating in a minute of painful distortion (Stiff Neck by Errorsmith) before slipping nicely into Luciano’s most recent release off Perlon. Other reviews I’ve read commented that the final few tracks were a slight anti-climax, perhaps too melodic and downtempo, but I find the merge between Soul Capsule and Joris Vermeiren beautiful, although not too danceable.
All in all, this is one of the Electronic Mix CDs I’ve listened to the most, and it still keeps me interested in 2010. Fantastic release and a good example of a Villalobos set when he’s on form.
