Notes

First press with embossed gold letters and Red & Black labels.

Pressed at the 'SNA' plant and has the correct first matrix:

ORE LP 502 A2 [SNA logo]
ORE LP 502 B2 [SNA logo]

There is nothing else etched into the runouts.

These first 'SNA' issues can also be Identified by the labels as they have a deep 32mm wide pressing ring.

Later 1989 issues were pressed at 'DFI' and they added '⩓ 89-8' and crossed the 'SNA' logo out in the runouts.

From the slowly-building rawness of I Wanna Be Adored to the head-spinning elation of She Bangs the Drums, the 60s-esque jauntiness of Waterfall to the grandiose patchwork of I Am the Resurrection, one has access to a great many anthems within the multifarious confines of the self-titled debut LP from Ian Brown, John Squire, Mani and Reni.

Picked up apon first release in 89 (mines embossed), liked it but not as much as others at the time. listened to for maybe a few weeks then put away. Maybe because was just hearing it everywhere...oversaturation, just like Nevermind a lil later. There's no denying its influence over the years. Shoot you down, still hits the mark

My first edition UK is etched with correct printed inner but does not have an embossed cover. Seems most first editions did not have the embossed cover. Should carry a for those who care.

1st pressing ID - Despite reading all I can on Discogs and other websites, I’m still unable to identify a true 1989 1st pressing of the self titled Stone Roses debut album on vinyl. Some say the sleeve is embossed, others say it’s smooth. Can anyone please help.

Anyone care to comment on any surface noise on their copy? I have some crackle between tracks and in a few quiet parts, but otherwise it plays pretty clean. Curious what others are experiencing with their copies. I'd rate it a 7 out of 10 for surface noise, 10 being dead silent from start to finish.

Ok. The first pressings are also without embossed sleeves. I have had both. My current copy is non embossed but with the correct runout etchings and was purchased 2bd hand a year after release. My orig copy was embossed bought on day of release. My mate bought a copy a couple of days later and was not embossed. I therefore conclude that the embossed copies are a ltd run of the first press.

Ah the stone roses bla bla bla HYPE. It's an OK album nothing special the "madchester" scene was setup to promote drug use kind of like a mini LA 80s crack scene. Agencies at work no doubt. Don't trust any of them although Ian Brown seems to have the right attitude politically (regarding the so-called "vaccine") but who knows. There is nothing on this album that is extraordinary in the least. There are a million bands who played brilliant music who never received the recognition they deserved because they weren't APPOINTED to get it. Someone says "the greatest album/band ever" and that's all they need to say.

A timeless masterpiece that provokes the popular question - who's listening to it in the year 20--? I know I do.

The version sitting in front of me should be this first (embossed) edition.

                      The Matrix/Runout is as follows;
Side A : (etched) EX ORE LP 502 A2 (stamped) SNA Logo (etched) DF1 [-situated below ORE-]
Side B: (etched) ORE LP 502. B2 (stamped) SNA Logo (etched) EX

Can anyone else confirm their matrix numbers with reference to text/logos other than the etched ORE LP 502.
