The Miracles – City Of Angels

Album Revolution # 1:

I get it, to most people "City Of Angels" is primarily known for "Love Machine", and through the naked eye, I truly understand why people see it that way....But if you are very serious about music (like I am), you start to look at things a little differently....

With this album, "Warren "Pete" Moore" and "Billy Griffin" have taken over as primary Songwriters and Associate Producers (even though "Freddie Perren" is still the main Producer here)....With that being said, the writing of "Moore" and "Griffin" has taken the group to a whole other level....

Think about it....The album starts with an Instrumental "Overture", showing their creativity....

Then the album goes into it's story, started with the "Title Track", in showing the group going on a adventure in "L.A."....

Every song has a story like "Free Press", "Ain't Nobody Straight In L.A." and " Night Life", which are experimental but self explanatory.....

"Waldo Roderick DeHammersmith" has a weird name to it, but the story is worth checking out....

The same can be said about "My Name Is Michael"....

There are 2 Crown Jewels....

The first one is "Poor Charlotte"...It is a tragic story about a young lady coming to "L.A." to make a name for herself, got tricked, only to lose her life (a learning lesson).....

The second is "Smog"....This song is a bonified song with super Arp & String Ensemble Synthesizers and Dynamic Vocal Effects....

See there? I hope by breaking this album down that some of you realize how good this album is....Not just on the Song Writing, but the Production aspect of it as well....

This started the Album Revolution for "The Miracles"....Yes they had one, and they deserved it!!!!!!!

Good album overall, with it's Los Angeles inspiration throughout……

"Smog" is a great song here, but the verses borrowed way too much from WAR's "The World is a Ghetto". If you can look past that, it's a great song that is more somber and soulful than the rest of the album IMO.

This record is obviously known for Love Machine (meh), but the true gem of the release is the closing track Smog, an absolutely amazing downbeat spaced out synth soul jam with a fairly humorous and oh-so-relevant vocal.
