Sounds very good. Seems to have RKS' sound signature of a tiny bit of a treble boost, but it helps the voices here stand out from what is an arkestra of many. Re: the comment that the cover art is blurry, I think that's the case of the art in general - even looking at photos of earlier pressings, the cover photo looks slightly out of focus. Bought this from VMP and very glad to have gotten this AAA at a decent price. -

From another planet for sure !!! Perfect quality in all instruments, voices really. This work are classic until the end of the world. Damn!

I haven't heard the original but this sounds fine. If the original recording isn't super great then this sounds great. I haven't heard any other pressing so IDK. Music is out there at times, and melodic, and spiritual, and weird. My copy arrived without defects which is saying something for this series.

My copy is perfect. Yeah, paper inners for any record that costs more than $20 are pretty chincy, but since I habitually resleeve albums in my collection, I always have some rice-paper lined inner sleeves handy. I also clean all my records before their first play-through. So far I've only picked up this and Pharoah Sanders' Black Unity, and I have no complaints. Maybe I've just been lucky, or maybe a few of the other reviews below were just unlucky? Just the golden rule of internet reviews - for every bad review you come across, there are probably 100 people who had a good experience who don't bother to leave any comments at all, because that's "human nature".

Flat and quiet. It is so crucial that the pressing be quiet since the title track ends with a long and very quiet coda that's very striking...but it requires a silent background. Static or ticks and pops would ruin it. Medium soundstage, bass is a little muffled and boomy. I assume this is a result of limitations of the original recording. Percussion sound is not vibrant. Saxes, organ, and voices sound good. That said, nothing here leaps out of the speakers with the realism and immediacy of great jazz recordings like those in the recent VMP Miles Davis box set. Cover art is blurry and looks like shit. VMP really needs to step up their game when it comes to artwork.
I really enjoy this record. For me, it is worth $40 because it's a very clean copy of a fun record that I want in my collection. Highly recommended. -

Surprisingly, the deadwax etching shows this is an entirely new lacquer cut by Ryan K. Smith, different from the recent Verve By Request version which was also cut by Ryan K. Smith. -
Carefully removed paper inner with no scuffing as it wasn't too tight a fit to gently scoop disc out. Discharged static and wet cleaned before first play and this sounds absolutely immense. Rice paper inner getting used on it so we don't end up with a paper inner scuff job.
My copy is perfectly centred and surface is dead silent. I may have been lucky, by the sounds of things, but in my experience, every Third Man pressing I've bought has been 100% in of quality, but a little dirtier than most. If you take care of your records, this is not an issue whatsoever.
An absolute bargain.

My copy sounds very good given the source. Paper inners are a disappointment, $0.25? Cover quality could be better but this is a great album that is impossible to find in clean used condition. Good introduction to more challenging jazz, title track and Rocker number 9 are mesmerizing.
