I my uncle's used to have this tape my uncle Roger and my Uncle Dave they used to have this tape I was young but I wasn't ready for Big Daddy Kane set it off until I got to five years old and played it because I was scared that part but I got through and I heard the beat and when I hear James Brown up in there I knew it was okay it was funky and plus them how Big Daddy Kane had the flow and Rhythm and delivery this album is now a collector's item original pressing by Warner Brother records and cold chilling label and this is the original one when they had the star like the converse shoe company but it's worth having if you are true die-hard hip-hop fan this is one of the Thousand Hip Hop albums I say get before you die -

Why didn't this album get the deluxe limited edition like the other Cold Chillin' records from Biz, G Rap, Shan, Ace and Shante? -

This album turns 30 years old today and is easily one of the greatest golden era hip-hop albums to have been released. Big Daddy Kane’s quick and suave lyrical delivery partnered with legendary Marley Marl’s production propelled his debut album to RIAA certified gold. Numerous lines from this album have been heavily sampled in other popular hip-hop songs and if you haven’t heard a track from this project, don’t be surprised if you hear a line which is sampled in another song. Due to the success of this album, he was the first MC to popularise the four-finger rings, velour suit and dookie chain style. Kane is a pioneer of hip-hop and will be ed as one of the greatest to ever hold a mic, he has influenced many other great MCs i.e. Nas, Biggie, Jay-Z, Eminem etc. This album was a turned point in hip-hop where lyrical skills started to become much more complex and sophisticated than it had in the past.
No doubt this is a hip-hop classic and all hip-hop heads should listen to this understand how influential Kane was in a time when no one else had this style. Stand out songs: Raw, Ain’t No Half-Steppin’ and Just Rhymin’ With Biz.
Since this is a relatively short album (~46 mins, no excuse not to listen to this classic) it fits on a single LP. The LP plays through quite nicely, mine is a little worn with a few pops and snaps in between songs, but that just adds more character to this album. I don’t have any complaints with the quality of this LP, vocals and bass come together to sound great.
5/5 for the album, 4/5 for the pressing.
