At first I didn’t like how Side A seemed a bit quieter, but by the time I got to Side C, I realized what was up. Wish more LP’s were handled like this—in a way that actually understands and respects the product/artistic intent. Weight is absolutely transcendent here and giving the track its own side was exactly the correct choice. Borderline cramming the first few songs on the first side not only frees up the space to really allow the latter part to open up and breathe, but it actually suits the experience to have things gradually open up and get louder as the album goes. Given this album was recorded in the cd era with a long running time, I can’t really see it getting much better than this as far as an LP. Only slight buzzkill is it’s a little noisy for my liking, even after a clean (don’t have a super $1,000 ultrasonic so maybe this is a case where that would make a difference, not sure). But not enough to harm the experience in a significant way

Sounds great. Sounds more like a 180g than a 140g if that makes sense. -
Very pleased with this purchase. No real noise to speak of. Dynamics are great. Perfect brightness to deliver and not chase you from the room.
They got this one right. -

anyone else notice that not only is the printing all around lower detail/color/quality, but the gatefold image is UPSIDE DOWN compared to previous issues? what the hell happened here??? -

Edit: My pressing is a hybrid, I got A/B in clear black splatter and C/D in Gold Red Splatter.
Got the best of both variant, makes one of a kind xD. Not complaining!
Playing it like the 4th time today, Weight is playing as i write this. An Album that speaks to me on a personal level, extraordinary musicianship, the atmosphere they created is vast and deep as the pacific itself, one of the greatest albums ever, across all genres!
A Bonafide piece of Art.

Edited 2 years agoFairly noisy and a bit warped, yes, but the sound is just incredible. It's rare that a new piece of vinyl takes you on a journey and lights up the room, and this is the one. Packaging is great and detailed as well. Great job.

I just got a copy from Bandcamp. I'm glad to have a vinyl version of this masterwork. Yes this remaster does have a more crisp sound than the earlier release in comparing it to a hi-res needle drop version I have, which is more bassy and smeary, perhaps better for a metal album. It's a trade off. I can also hear the difference on the two versions on the streaming service. Listen for yourself.
The vinyl looks cool and matches the label nicely and overall album look. But the cover art detail is very much reduced. Disappointing. Doesn't look like an ocean at all. I like the printing directly on cardboard look, but it is more suited to graphic designs, not photographs.
The discs came with a slight lens warp, but plays ok. I didn't clean it yet but it is rather noisy too. I guess what was said about the cheap public toilet liner style inner sleeves leaving paper traces is true. Unfortunately the jacket is too tight for decent plastic lined paper sleeves, only the basic rice paper ones will work. The heavy card stock is noted as a feature, but a better image on the front would have been more interesting. Cardboard is hardly a major selling point. So it is a bit of a miss on the art and packaging direction. Oh well... -

Happy with my copy that I ordered in march via the bandstore (there was a little restock).
There is some surface noise on every record in the last few seconds till the roundout so there was def. some kind of pressing problem but the rest of the vinyl sounds perfect. It's only ~5 seconds on each side so I can defnetly life with this.
The Sleeve feels good and there was also the sleeve inside.
Boths records are flat and no skipping or anything. Mastering is great and very dynamic and the color looks awesome. -

The sound is very clean and crisp, but this is at the expense of the sludgy feel of the original master. The character of the remaster is so different compared to the original, which had a more laid back feel to the drums and more low end to the guitars. I never had a problem with cymbals being distracting with the original master, but I find them too bright and too large on this remaster. -
this is probably just an early run of the black pressing after they made the brown. My C/D copy i just got has significant coffee colored streaking and marbling. It's really cool.
