Leaf Hound – Growers Of Mushroom

A great album, but fucked up by excessive DR5db compression. Shit !

The half speed mastered reissue sounds superb. The labels on mine are applied on the wrong sides i.e. side 1 has the label saying side 2. Anyone else?

One of the few obscure albums that actually lives up to its reputation. It’s a superb album of seventies hard rock.

The review on the Top 25 Most Expensive Items Sold On Discogs in August 2024 article mentions similar sounds to Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin but I am hearing Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs (Sunbury period).

I wish I knew who was responsible for the cover art..? Although it is unrepresentative of the bands hard rock style (this is not a psychedelic record!), never the less it's a really eye catching sleeve and probably goes a long way to creating even more collectors interest in it. I know that David Anstey was responsible for a lot of the Decca and Deram album sleeves from that time. Could it be him..?

I'm guessing this is NOT a gatefold cover like the other reissues were?

Well I tried the Repetoire and I tried this one too but honestly compared to my original they are kidn of terrible. so muffled, no mid/highs like the original, total loss of dynamics. I too suspect all LP reissues have been from digital but that was to be expected. SO why do I keep hoping a reissue will get it right if I have an original? to sell my original and be happy with a repress, of course, but so far it has not happened and at this point likely never will. I wish i could be positive about ANY reissue but they just arent there. too bad

I don't care for the coloured vinyl but this is a good pressing I must say. The sound quality is excellent, especially for CZ. I assume the source is digital, since these days any analogue stuff is usually plastered on the album with hype stickers etc but I could be wrong, it doesn't sound particularly digital though. The range of volume between loud and quiet parts certainly give it an authentic energy. I'm happy with this reissue, it's an album I like but I could never justify the four figure price of an original!

No real complaints here other than the colour, which although I'm not a fan of - does not affect the play so I see it as a non issue.
