Sweet for a reissued version. Sounds phat and raw being cained using the Technics 1200 MK3, Rane TTM 56 and Focal Studio Monitors. Audiophiles look elsewhere.

arguably the definitive version of this mind-blowing LP. different mix and different picture than what the original pressings from 1970 have, so it may as well be a completely different release. but once you hear this, you may never even consider listening to the original pressing ever again. yeah, its that good.

hate to say it, but this original mix on this pressing is terrible. thin, flat, muddy with no real dynamic or punch to it. dont get me wrong, this is an amazing LP with some incredible tunes, but the overall production sounds pretty bad.

never in my life did i think that i would ever endorse a modern revisionist remix or remaster, but if you really want to get your face melted off by this LP, get this version-

its a fairly different mix and even has a slightly different picture used on the cover, so it may as well be a completely different version. but it has to be heard to be believed. i know, youre thinking that i may be on the same drugs the band was on; saying something like that. but once you hear it, i think you'll agree.

PS- dont even bother with the CD version from the same era. it sounds even worse than the original LP, and theres about a 2 minute portion in the first track where the left channel completely drops out. but thats only the CD version.

Sounds surprisingly great. Bass is there. Guitar and keys could sound a bit hotter but otherwise this is very good and looks great. Cover's a bit flimsy tho

This brazilian pressing is not only rare but it's hot.

This is trippy experimental Funkadelic. First two albums are radically different than Maggot Brain and beyond. The intent is dark psychedelic music that stems from the harsh realites it's rooted in. Consequently, what's sonically presented here is a brittle and bruttally cold production that's emphasizing atmosphere. Don't expect warm and rich tones. Eddie Hazel, as usual, is excellent. He's particularly edgy and aggresive on this one.

I was finally able to compare this pressing to an original 1970 Westbound, so I wanted to add my observations to the discussion.

While I definitely found the vintage disc to be much more organic, and well worth (to me) the cost to pick one up, even side by side this was a very decent pressing. It is just as rich and strong as the original with the same eq settings. The only issue is that it was too uniformly loud, which tended to compress the depth and some of the detail way down in the mix.

In my experience comparing vintage 70s records to modern reissues, this one was above average, and a very satisfying alternative considering the cost of an original. But if you can get your hands on a clean original, you won't regret it.

People need to bare in mind you’re not going to find an audiophile recording of this album. The way in which it sounds is raw, lots of almost like a live performance heard many different pressings.

20 bucks new, decent enough sound and I'm happy. Early Funkadelic was crazy and on a low budget.

Better than I expected...no reissue of this album will be audiophile quality due to the way this was originally mixed but I'd say this is an excellent sounding version and thankfully, very quiet pressing. The vinyl is a cool color and is nice complement to the psych/funk content...truly a mind blowing release!
