In my version from Phonokol I have the index error between track 4 and 5 :( -

The vinyl release is a 3xLP not a 2xLP and the cover unfortunately does not glow in the dark. At least mine doesn't

It was the summer of 1995. 18-year-old me and five friends entered Ibiza and didn't sleep much the first five days or so (and not much more the days after that). Coming from hip hop and jungle, it was the first time I actually enjoyed the 4/4 beat of techno, trance, and even house music. Then, one day this old hippie dude in Ibiza Town handed us a flyer to some party not in a club but at some remote place on the island. Asked what it was he said something about "Indian trance". Well, at that time everything new was good and so we went. Boom! What a freaking awesome night! I had no idea what I just listened and danced to for 12 hours. I spent the next eight months or so trying to figure it out. Then some friend handed me over a tape containing this album. And there it was, "Indian trance", I was hooked and remained so for the years to follow...
It is still the most iconic psy/goa album for me. Every single track is a unique gem on its own, well arranged, composed almost. Classic. Ever since I've spent a lot of time finding that kick again, and even if some tracks, artists and albums that followed were equally great, none of them ever had that impact on me. Listening to it now, 22 years later, it is still unmatched for me and laden with memories of warm. I wouldn't even know to pick a favorite track because they're all marvellous, but the one that sticks out, I guess, is Psychopod. But it doesn't mean much because every track is a doorway to its unique universe, except perhaps Doof - People in UFOs, that is a bit out of place compared to the rest of the album. If I correctly I even recorded a tape version without it when I bought the LP, ha.
If Ibiza had popped my cherry, Phosphorescence made me fully appreciate it. And I am so glad I was there. My father introduced me to Jimi Hendrix' Electric Ladyland, I know what I will introduce my kids to. -

This simply is a magical compilation. Twisted and deep soundscapes throughout the entire album... I know for sure you can't compare this album to other ones. It's like bubbles of brainblood squashing open inside your head!!!! And as I heard, I think this album realy is being underestimated. You can't imagine how much fun I had listening to this album for the first time. Big feelings of respect, tears and appreciation!! The true twisted fucks within the gigantic group of discogsgoaheads :) will agree with me that Frank and Ian realy delivered a masterpiece with their track 'psychopod' and that it fits well next to these other ones. Excellent compiling work they delivered here... It goes without saying that in this time the qualities and craziness of producers like Hallucinogen and x-dream do not need an introduction anymore. We've got the Hallucinogen tracks on lots of cd's, but still it keeps on ruling the centre of the ultraverse within my vision. If you don't have this album, get it while you can and get yourself a respectboner x 1000 lol!!! -
Edited 18 years agoTrack A "Psychopod" is the track this compilation is worth having for. It is the absolute goa-psychedelik flipout undercover-overdrive frenzy that will make you forget your legs and feet while your brain is doing joyful flic-flacs...dancing is the real drug!
We know X-Dream's and Hallucinogen's tracks for good but the Lysurgeon's Warning really has that pinch of psychedelic more than the original (which nevertheless will ever be the original).
Many of these tracks were/are available on 12"'s or other compilations (like e.g. "Sunrise" by "The Antidote" aka "Total Eclipse" which is almost long enough to be played as a perfect soundtrack for the "real" sunrise at your outdoor party).
The tracks that aren't available anywhere else (B2, D2, F1) are all excellent.

Probably the deepest and best compilations TIP put out, and with a sweet glow in the dark cover!
About half the tracks presented were previously available in simgles from TIP (Psychopod, Gamma Goblins, Panic In Paradise and Sunrise). The rest of it is good- pretty typical for the artists involved. The Doof track sound like quintessential Doof; and Alien Homes by Orichalcum is one of my favorites due to its deep psy- tech approach. The gems here are the Manmademan and Tristan track and the Soothsayer remix, both only released on "The Phoss". The Hallucinogen remix sounds absolutely nothing like the original- a rare invocation for psy artists.
All in all a good score to get, and from what I have seen it isn't too terribly hard to find.
