Disctronics Limited History:
Disctronics Limited was ed with the National Companies and Securities Commission on the 13/05/1986 as an Australian Public Company Limited by shares. This is the earliest recorded registration of the "Disctronics" brand name.
[Logo] TRIANGLE,INCOMPLETE IN DISC with trademark number 475535 was lodged on 28/10/1987. The applicant/owner of the trademark is ed as Disctronics (IP) Limited. They used the trademark attorney firm Phillips Ormonde Fitzpatrick to file this trademark.
In 1987 the Disctronics plant was opened at 9 De Havilland Road, Braeside, Victoria. In July 1987 Disctronics acquired a UK CD manufacturing company (Disctec). This plant was operated by Disctronics (UK) Ltd.
Also during 1987, Disctronics Group (Disctronics Ltd & Disctronics Australia Limited) negotiated with Quixote to buy Disctronics H). LaserVideo became Disctronics Manufacturing, Inc. [`DMI']. From January 1988 to April 1990, the Disctronics Group controlled DMI.
In 1988 Disctronics was floated by way of a takeover of Disctronics by BGL International Limited, which then changed its name to Disctronics Ltd.
02 March 1990 Disctronics Ltd acquired US company, Memory-Tech Inc., Plano, Texas for US$13m, through a Cook Islands subsidiary.
In February 1991 a receiver and manager was appointed by Tricontinental to Disctronics. 25 February 1991 Disctronics shares were suspended.
February 1993 Disctronics Limited was delisted at the Company's request.
Most discs (but not all) will have a statement to the effect of "Made in Australia by Disctronics" or "Made in Australia by Disctronics Limited" and will contain the statement "MADE BY DISCTRONICS B" in the matrix (denoting pressed at the Braeside, Melbourne plant).
Several discs have also been documented containing Disctronics Australia in the matrix however these are scarce by comparison.
