    I was digitizing a record and noticed that at the end of each song there was one or more empty gaps. It only happens at the end of each song (and the silent part). Sometimes they change in size. See image:

    Does anyone know what could be causing this problem? I used a Audio-Technica AT-LP60.

    Maybe this idea is new to you but silence = no audio input = nothing to record = gaps in the recorded waveform.

    The first arrow is pointing to a part that isn't silent.

    Looks like a noise gate that kicks in when the noise level falls below threshold.
    But since this "empty gap" is apparently within a track gap, why even bother?

    (By the way, an "empty" gap is a pleonasm. ;)
