Currently using Mackie MR-8's that are about 15 years old. I believe they are about 80 watts each. They are great a workhorse but I was also wondering what else is out there in the active monitor landscape that might be a little bit more senior?
Is there anything in the $800 to $2000 (per speaker) range that would be a noticeable upgrade?
My goal would be overall improved clarity and detail. More middle-bass wouldn't hurt either. One of the annoyances of the MR-8 is the sloppy volume control on the back. Its a very fickle, single volume knob that is sensitive down to the millimeter.
Due to the way my shelves are setup, it would need to be something that stood vertically, not a horizontal format. No more than 12 or 13 inches wide at the base.
