Discogs Simplifies GPSR Compliance for Music Sellers Worldwide

Discogs, the world’s leading music discovery and record collecting platform, is proud to announce proactive measures to ensure sellers on its platform seamlessly comply with the EU’s General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR). With the regulation in full effect on December 13, 2024, Discogs worked diligently to simplify compliance requirements for its global seller community, strengthening transparency and trust across its marketplace.

The GPSR introduces new responsibilities for business sellers listing products in the EU and Northern Ireland, requiring them to provide accurate manufacturer information. For labels based outside the EU or Northern Ireland, an EU Responsible Person must also be listed.

Leveraging its extensive discography database, Discogs preemptively updated over 1,000 label profiles with GPSR-required information — and the effort continues. This initiative ensures many listings are already compliant without additional effort from sellers.

To this initiative, Discogs collaborated with IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry), a global voice for the recording industry, to gather accurate label data. This partnership reflects Discogs’ dedication to fostering strong relationships across the music ecosystem to serve its global community better.

“At Discogs, we know regulatory compliance can be daunting. That’s why, as a platform built for and by collectors, we proactively simplified the process. Our team, with help from our Community Advisory Turntable and IFPI, leveraged our database and partnerships to create a solution that minimizes burdens now and forever. This free solution, available to everyone, enriches the entire community, not just Discogs. It’s an example of our commitment to good stewardship, empowering sellers, and strengthening trust across this vibrant community,” said Lloyd Starr, Chief Operating Officer at Discogs.

Discogs also calls on sellers and label representatives to contribute by reviewing and updating label profiles where needed. Every update strengthens the reliability of the Discogs’ discography database and ensures ongoing compliance.
