When I first heard this, I was completely swept away and was convinced it was Bjork's audition/gateway to a Bond theme tune. I suppose I was half right, in that it must surely have caught someone at EON's attention and David Arnold was installed as Bond soundtrack composer for multiple films. David Arnold tells an interesting story on a Mark Kermode podcast about the making of the track, in that he had completed the soundtrack for Young Americans, had a limited amount of studio time left to record this track, gave the orchestra sheet music, got them to play it and with that one and only take Play Dead was recorded.
