It’s harder than Blackwater Park, but the growls are not as strong in this album. There’s a lot more chorus going on though, almost as they revisited “Still Life”. “Wreath” is like an avalanche, which comes at you in waves of growls, malodic parts and drums. At the end of that I feel numb, comfortably. “Deliverance” is a tracks of many different styles, and shows off the off beat prog drumming for the first time. The cleans as well as the growling vocals are great, and that ending is a pure killer. “A Fair Judgement” is more of a slow track, at least until the solo starts. It doesn’t have growls at all, and is truly beautiful. “For Absent Friends” is an acoustic short song which they have made a few of. “Master’s Apprentices” is very hard also, with great vocals which echoes a lot throughout the track. “By The Pain I See In Others” is kind of a joker. It has much of the known riffs from the other songs, but it suddenly switches to something more black metal inspired as it runs. A very different style of growling is incorporated, and it has more surprising turnovers than you would expect.
