Upon this album's release in 1982, I went through 3 copies at a local music store looking for a quiet pressing. I wasn't being picky - the copies I bought were just really bad. The one I ended up with still has shortcomings. The music is wonderful and inspiring, but we can't forget that noisy vinyl versions are out there.

I was 13 in 1982 so I am firmly in the smack dab middle of the E.T. Target audience and was immediately enchanted by the movie that summer long ago and am again every time I give it another viewing. Now to the music… I am a huge John Williams soundtrack fan going back to my 8 yr old self in 1977 and devouring the star wars soundtrack double lp. The E.T. Soundtrack is so much more subtle and sublime that a galaxy far away….but the music goes so much deeper into my emotions and it is the only Williams soundtrack that has brought me to tears. It is on par with Copland pieces of the 20th century, “Appalachian Spring” comes to mind as to evoking emotion….so amazing a work for a summer blockbuster

Had this sitting around un-cleaned for too long, gave it a deep clean...WOW. YOU are one with the music on this pressing for sure. So well recorded, the horns and strings soar, in addition to huge bottom end. Listening on a Pro-Ject 2Xperience Classic, AT540ML, Sutherland Vibe preamp. Very dynamic and quiet.
