I have a copy exactly like this, but there is no blank box on the sleeve. Which version do I have? I am a little lost

Edited 8 months agoMy explanation for the relative obscurity of this release is that there weren't 18,000 copies pressed of this edition, but rather 18,000 total for the original Mellon Collie release. The 1996 pressing had 3 runs of 5,000 each (numbered through 15,000). 18,000 is the total across all four runs, with only 3,000 pressed in 1998.
If 18,000 were pressed, collections would be flooded with this release. In fact this edition is much rarer than the numbered pressings.
Update: The 18,000 number was BS and has been removed from the release info fortunately. See the replies to this comment for more info. Thanks to everyone who chimed in. -
So according to release pages, side C of unnumbered version is a different matrix variant from numbered copies? Can someone who have both confirm this? So I guess this side sounds different on both?

This sounds amazing - but I'm curious as to how only a few hundred people have added it here if 18,000 were pressed?
-
Sounds stellar. You might want to invest in a microline stylus, as some sides have a fair amount of inner groove distortion. Other than that it sounds amazing.

If anyone has the second record for Sale, please let know. Mine has a misprint label on the B side. I would also be open to buying all 3 records by themself as well, but would prefer just the second one. Thanks!

So I'm guessing this is a third pressing from the "original" sources. A friend of mine recently sold one of the first ten numbered copies. There didn't seem to be much if any difference between my copy aside from the stamped number. Pressing debates can become quite convoluted but should consider production methods. The two copies I've heard sound great but a tad "murky" as some sides exceed 18-22 minutes. I'm curious to hear the four LP version but the alignment of "Dawn" to "Starlight" labels must be off.

For years I was worried my copy was unofficial, and there was a lot of debate online as to the origins/authenticity of this press because of the blank white box. I'm glad to know its definitive origins.
