Edited one month agoBounce Back for me was at at time where UK Rave Hardcore, Jungle and Techno ruled.... and Dave was ahead of the game with this release.
I first heard it on a compilation Hard2Trance or Dance on R&S... and it stood out then amongst a strong pack of contenders they had on their books.. AFX Twin, Neuro, CJ Holland etc...it gives you some perspective on the importance of this release.. ✌🏼 -
They were already broadcasted in 1991. I recorded a set in 1991 from Antwerps pirate radio station Lazer Hot Hits, somewhere in November or December 1991 where the first 2 tracks were mixed.

I must it I am not familiar with all of his work but I am not a particular Dave Angel fan but Bounceback is just incredible.

About a decade or so ago I came across a recording where some of these tracks were played. The recording was from late 1991, unfortunately the recording and subsequently the blog was taken down perhaps due to some type of official takedown notice. A little later I stumbled upon footage of the first ever Mayday event in Berlin, in December 1991, where Dave had been part of a line up of DJs, and had performed/played live/made PA one or two of the tracks from this release alongside Speedy J, Frank De Wulf, CJ Bolland, Tanith, WestBam amongst a good few others. The exact same mixes as presented on this release. I wasn't entirely shocked but a little surprised that these tunes were already made in 1991 but not necessarily officially, fully released yet. It seems, anecdotedly that like Dave Angel, many other artists signed to R & S Records went through the same process. Having productions ready from weeks or several months, maybe even years prior to full release. Perhaps all these 'golden ages of Techno' talks and other musical scenes should be reconsidered / reconfigured to much earlier times?
