Deep Dish have been house stalwarts since the early 90s, and now, with GEORGE IS ON, they content with a genre that continues to grow. Luckily, they've adapted; instead of their trademark long, deep mixes, they approach this album with more of a pop sensibility, with mixed results, from the rather bland rock-hybrid of "No Stopping For Nicotine" (which sounds more like a Morel track than Deep Dish) to the more country tawng groove of "Flashdance." Their reliance on vocals, particularly on Morel's growl and Anousheh's serviceable diva stylings, does tend to push their work towards the middle-of-the-pack. But there are stand-outs, like the more melancholy "Say Hello" or the revamp of Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams." "Dub Shepherd" and "Sexy Ill" returns somewhat to the Deep Dish of old, though the questionable ballad of "In Love with a Friend" edges uneasily towards cheesy. But there's the great stinger mash-up of their work and Dire Straits with "Flashing For Money." On the disc or remixes, "Flashdance" gets a grittier electro swing courtesy of David Guetta & Joachim Garraud, while the Hoxton Whores get a little more garage. Even better, the mixes of "Say Hello" bring out the better aspects of that track, from the guitar-driven take by Angello & Ingrosso, while Paul Van Dyk performs his usual melodic trance and Dylan Rhymes brings out the acid breaks. A good effort overall, even if they've lost some of what made them unique in the previous decade.

THIS IS THE MOST "POP" AND UNCREATIVE PRODUCTION BY DEEP DISH. It seems that this album was already announcing the end of the dual.
Na minha opiniao: "O PIOR ALBUM DA CARREIRA DELES". Parece que criaram esse album para marcar o começo do fim da dupla. -
Edited 19 years agoI have heard a lot of mixed reviews on this one, particularly from people who were expecting a little bit of previous Deep Dish mid/late-90s glory on this one. Well, this release, Dub & Sharam's first artist album in over 6 years and the first under a recently new contract with Thrive, is growing on me with each listen. It is a bit more rock-like than I expected. What hits me, though, is its attitude - which comes from the ambitiousness of the duo to try different tempos and styles yet retain an atmospheric feel, granted not at epic lengths (but that's for the remixes). They're willing to take chances that others wouldn't want them to and risking their rep at the same time - if this doesn't help keep modern dance music progressing, then we're all in big trouble. "Flashdance" and "Say Hello" are already well-known (the Angello/Ingrosso mix of the latter is a killer, if I say so). "Swallow Me", "Dub Shepherd", and "No Stopping For Nicotine" are my future single picks. I avoided the obvious one, because let's face it - their remake of "Dreams" (with Stevie Nicks actually singing up half-a-key higher than the original, mind you) is practically screaming for release and probably will have been by the time some of you read this. It seems that DD are now finally able to say what they feel now without major label pressure. Here's hoping we don't wait another six years. Keep on keepin' on.
