I was delighted when I finally got my hands on this pressing! Many mixes sound much more direct and dry than the finished thing. Especially the rattling and punchy mixes of "Most Likely You Go..." and "Obviously 5 Believers" are amazing.
The vocal flub on "Sad-Eyed Lady" (which is also longer than any other version) was a real eye-opener. I grew up with that nasty 1987 CD mix (yep, the shortened one) and used to listen to it for hours on end since I was a kid. It was my first love music-wise. But I was always puzzled at that chopped beat when Dylan sang "persuaded...you". I always assumed it was a digital glitch on my CD until I bought my first Blonde On Blonde LP (stereo 2nd press it was) and was shocked to hear the same poor edit on a 60s issue! Hearing the un-edited canadian pressing explains it all. They really could have put more effort into that tape splice! -
if anyone wants the full details on the canadian truely unique mix differences i will post them. i own all 4 mono versions US,UK,FRENCH, CANADA . i will check back weekly.

One of my favourite Dylan albums, of course, and I can't imagine how it must have felt listening to this for the first time in 1966. There were lots of other key musicians in 1966 stretching music way beyond what was even being achieved the year before, and "Blonde on Blonde" is one of those rarefied diamonds in the collection of progressive trendsetters. Congrats on Columbia for believing in the marketability of a 2LP release. Because it's Bob Dylan, there are websites dedicated to parsing out the differences between different versions, and it turns out this Canadian mono release creates quite a bit of interest as it seems to be a rather early mono mix. Largely the differences seem to be exactly when and where and how much of certain instruments are heard, and when fade outs occur. I think it sounds sweet, even if I have no other basis of comparison.

I dropped the needle on the Canadian copy and just thought my new cart was really picking up some depth..... then I realized the mix was different. Pretty great sounding pressing besides the alternate mixes. There is mention of weight being different, but it is the same weight as the US mono pressing. The cite that is mentioned clarifies that later in the post. French pressing is mentioned as different as well, what makes it different than the UK/Canadian pressings (under the premise that the US one is the standard pressing)?

A true collectors bonanza. Loaded with early different mixes that are not available elsewhere. This is the only place to hear the original version of Sad Eyed Lady with the vocal flub on the 4th verse that was repaired with an edit from an earlier take on all other versions worldwide. Even the version included on the 17CD Bootleg Series Vol. 12 has been slightly tampered with(!). This Canadian mono mix is totally unique.
Sides 1 and 2 correspond to the mono UK pressing which contains numerous mix differences not on the US mono pressing. The French mono edition has even more unique mixes(!) You need the Canadian, French and US mono lp's to have all the variations.
