Just noticed on my first pressing 'nimbus' CD that the rectangular OASIS logo on the back of Noel's head (on the actual CD) is missing – just an empty white box. Everything else correlates exactly to the discogs version reference. Has anyone else seen this and is it simply a misprint? Thanks.

The singles were played so much at the time they still bore me even hearing them today.still a good album. they got stale pretty quick.

Tim-o-Meter: 8/10
Oasis is a good band, i'm a big fan of 'Wonderwall', but for me that's it. I know I should appreciate it more but when I listen to this release, I listen only to that song. Though I only like a singular song, I still have to recognize it's significance, this is a solid 8. -

Edited 4 years agoIntentionally reflective and introspective, "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?" cathartically examines the raw, disillusioning aftershock of a self-fulfilled prophecy such as becoming a rock 'n' roll star. In 1995, Noel and Liam Gallagher were part of the biggest band in the world, envisioning their superstardom into existence and changing the entire musical landscape with their melodic, guitar-heavy, low-brow empowerment anthems. "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?" is as much a loose concept album as the predecessor was, only infinitely less brash and aggressive in tonality, with every song exhibiting a remarkably balanced, sedate feel. It was this newfound musical maturity that led the band to venture into ballad territory, and the anthemic, sweeping quality of the album's biggest singles, "Wonderwall" and "Don't Look Back In Anger" is of particular note, and such comprehensive affinity with their audience inexorably resulted in further commercial success. Noel Gallagher's songwriting had improved to such an extent that he was able to communicate emotional resonance not only through his lyrics, but also sonic plagiarism, which he managed to pull off without being accused of shameless thievery. Oasis could convey sentiment so effectively that any derivativeness was applied to their unbridled appeal; they were charming scoundrels easily forgiven for such minor transgressions as lack of originality. Even the occasional muscular rockers such as "Some Might Say", are invaded by transcendence and defiance, and the equally raging and remorse-laden title track showcases Liam Gallagher's enriched, textured vocals, now decidedly less disdainful, perfectly adapted to the sensitive, moving atmosphere of the album. It is quite jarring how much the band have developed and expanded the instrumental aspect of their sound; instead of overdubbing and amplifying barre chords and root bass notes to the point of distortion, the welcome addition of strings, acoustic guitars and keyboards elevate the recording considerably, aided by the less compressed production. Oasis may borrow considerably and wear their influences on their sleeves, but any cognizant riffs are abstracted and strengthened by the band's magnetism; the end product is undeniably gorgeous, twelve powerful compositions with standalone hit potential.
"(What's the Story) Morning Glory?" is not meant to supersede the debut, it is a continuation of the themes explored. Not being as brash or reckless, the uplifting nature of the songs is applicable to introverted listening as well as social settings than merely a drunken group singalong in a pub, which "Definitely Maybe" was designed for. Somewhat of a recommencing of the saccharine beauty married to the music and lyrics demonstrated on stopgap songs "Whatever" and "Sad Song", "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?" was an acerbic look at the repercussions of a wannabe rock star's dreams having come true. In exploring themes of affirmation and partying not too dissimilar from their debut, here they are suffused with a soupcon of shame and poignancy for good measure. Lyrically, it is this tongue-in-cheek temerity, exaggerated exuberance and sense of nostalgia that pervades throughout, enveloped by a sugar-coated, convincingly delivered tenderness that recalls the strains of "Imagine", though inherently more feasible and logical. Musically, the band are on top form, bolstered by a beefier rhythm section that lends a majesty and command to the proceedings, heightening the emotional depth of the songs. All things considered, "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?" is the Oasis album that rewards the most with repeat listens, channelling everything from the Beatles to Burt Bacharach, reducing the volume and the chaos and embracing solipsism, the big choruses covering up a multitude of flaws, it is a radio-friendly unit shifting statement of sound and image firmly ensconced in the Britishness and retro cool of its time. Nothing else from the Britpop canon comes close to what the Gallagher brothers achieve here, not even the records they released subsequently.

Edited 5 years agoIs someone know if a Morning Glory 25th birthday LP album is planned for this year ?

Holds a special place in my heart, one of the first rock release I ever possessed. Maybe not the best but a lot of special songs in it (Some might say, Wonderwall, Champagne Supernova).
-
I bought an original of this CD before the better sounding remaster came out. My copy sound ok for the price.

One of the WORST mastered CDs in the entire CD history.
I believe Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab Inc. (MFSL) should take this record and remaster it.
Since the Big Brother has no competence in hiring professionals, MFSL should step in to fix this. -
Edited 8 years agoin case you are wondering about the quality of the repress.. TIDAL has both of them, original and remaster, online. So make a test and listen to both of them. Cheers!
