Black Diamond is the remarkable debut of the versatile singer Angie Stone. On this album melting Classic soul of the 1960s and 1970s along with 1980s funk and 1990s hip-hop without sounding corny. Stone called when writing the songs in the help of, among other things, Stefanie Bolton, Gerry Deveaux, Lenny Kravitz and her ex-friend and r&b-singer D'Angelo. They took a share of the production. We hear clearly the influence of soul divas like Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan and Roberta Flack involving the use of contemporary beats and hip-hop not shunned. Apart from strong new songs like No More Rain In This Cloud, Everyday and Life Story, is there on this album also made way for a cover of Marvin Gaye's classic Troubled Man. interesting guitar solos and funky bass lines we hear in the sexy, Prince-like sounding songs Love Junkie, My Lovin' Will Give You Something and Man Loves His Money. This cd is a refreshing alternative to the many aalgladde, risk-free r&b-albums with which the market is flooded in recent years.
