Edited 3 years agoHow to describe Spliff. Odd. Wonderfully odd. Great musicianship, but the songs are basically all spoofs of different styles of pop music. Their disco is quite solid. The jingles are all great. Even though the genres are pop, the ethos and lyrics are quite punk. Sung in English as opposed to their other albums. It's a fun and funny album to listen to.

This is such an over-looked and under-rated album. It is a parody of the music industry, lampooning many different musical styles, from Punk to Prog to Commercial Rock, with even a couple of fake adverts & jingles. They pull it off because the musicianship and production are top notch. A highlight is "Goo Roo", a blatant rip/nod to John McLaughlin's "Open Country Joy". Put your tongue in your cheek and enjoy.....

Wow!! I only recently purchased Nina Hagen band albums , I couldn’t help but notice how fantastic the band where . So on a recent trip to Berlin I decided to buy Spliff’s albums . Radio show is certainly rock n roll but very quirky ! One thing these guys can do is play ! The drummer is on top form on this , the bass is just spot on ! Really feeling it . Love the variety of vocalists on this album . Slightly punk edge on some tracks but very new wave on the whole ! Shame they split . Sometimes certain acts just go without enough credit . While shit bands ......well that’s marketing for you . Definitely one of the best bands I’ve heard . I wish I could have seen these guys live !
