Edited 6 months agoReally strong concert during Yes's peak. This set sounds very good (I have a hard time believing the comments about it being "bootleg quality", I've heard several older Yes bootlegs and this sounds MUCH better). My main complaint is that it was pressed on thin vinyl - this is not a 180g pressing which is shocking for an RSD release. Don't let that distract you though, this is a great set!

I treated myself to this LP - already having the CD boxset it was originally on. Very pricey. I'm struck by the comments about "bootleg" quality. Now I'm not an audiophile but for me the sound is clear and dynamic from the vinyl, I'm glad I bought it. Still don't think I'll be shelling out over £500.00 for the vinyl boxset though.

Edited one year agoYou could say the only thing about this release that is astonishing is the price.
Thanks; another RSD rip-off!
All round very good 70's recording of a band that some would say were at the top of their game (I think they would get better).
Better than Yessongs? Yes, but thanks to the lack of Starship Trooper and Perpetual Change I would still take the 'period' sound of that original collection.
Saying that, this concert has been selected because it's regarded as the best out of the Progeny series.
One reviewer here considers this "Not much better than good bootleg quality sound".
No-one with any experience of 1970's recordings should take that comment seriously, never mind a comparison to historical Yes recordings. I need to know where he sources his bootlegs!
Sadly, there's no irony in making those criticisms though. You're possibly getting to the age when you're hearing is degrading & high and low end are a thing of the past (you're never going to it it so this for the younger generation and they're probably listening to some streaming garbage).
I personaly miss The Yes Album stuff but this a great live LP. Far too pricey though.
Find a cheap copy if you can. It won't disappoint! -
I think this album captures a great musical period of time for the group. Of course the 'Close To The Edge' tour for true Yes fans was a moment!, and now we have an opportunity to it well.
Original recording is very midrange centric so sound has bandwidth limitations, but overall Sound is good, & pressing decent.
Saw this instore on RSD 2023 and picked it up.
Six sides later happy I did exactly that. -
Not much better than good bootleg quality sound. All midrange with little frequency extension. Great concert though.

Well worth the price right now! Hope it doesn't get too high. Black Poly lined sleeves. Clear sound. Sounds better than the mp3s I had of this show.
-
Quality pressing. Good recording (not stellar). Excellent performance. Clearly well mastered and they made the best of what was likely a fairly limited source recording. And as an added bonus, unlike so many “archival” releases of late, the artwork is tasteful and beautifully low key. Highly recommend.

Edited 2 years agoGreat recording!!! My copy is clear and quiet. Will for sure be spinning this a lot over next few weeks. FunFact: My mom was at this show. Think she was like 13.
