Amazing experience. Listening to this with headphones, on speakers, with others, is a treasure beyond words. Out of the few Acoustic Sounds reissues I own, this is easily the best one and one of the best records I own, period.

A pristine and immaculate pressing. And the packaging is also state of the art. I had an older reissue which was a mediocre pressing at best with notable hissing, and I am happy to finally replace it with a best in class copy this album deserves.

Edited 4 months agoA wondrous journey to a distant land, Alice and Pharaoh have achieved something special in this musical suite. The grooves are rhythmic, beginning sparsely and building in complexity and density. Harp and oud add an exotic flavor. The bass and drums are locked into a pulse throughout.
I'm so accustomed to Rudy Van gelder mixes, so this one is very different and very pleasing. There is a great deal of high sparkle, allowing the droning sounds to fill the upper . Soloists are boosted when it's their turn to blow. Amazing bass solo on B1.
This acoustic sounds reissue includes a heavy tip-on gatefold jacket with glossy sides, rice paper lined inner sleeve, and pristine glossy vinyl. There is no detectable crackle nor extraneous sounds, but some bleed is evident between tracks. An aural treat. Buy it.

Not impressed by QRP's recent QC:
- 1st copy isn't flat nor centered (on top of this, my copy arrived with a nice seam-split but i know it's probably not Acoustic Sounds' fault)
- 2nd copy arrived with an invisible defect on A1 generating a cyclical click for a good minute (and, yes, i've (ultra-sonically) cleaned my record).
I reserve my full opinion once i would have gotten a good copy. -
Flat, quiet vinyl. The quiet part is important with music like this. I can't compare this with other pressings because I've actually never heard this album until now. I hear a wide soundstage, clear separation of instruments, and lots of detail in the bass. I don't love the way the harp seems to come out of the left speaker while much of the rest of the band seems to come out of the right. Musically, this is not entirely interesting. I find that a certain level of intoxication makes it much more interesting. Interesting or not, it certainly is beautiful.
