The Music: "Fourth of July" has never been my favourite Sufjan Stevens song, but it does belong on my favourite album of his, Carrie & Lowell. I enjoyed both versions of it found on this 7" special release, and found the DUMBO version to be my preferred version of the two offered here due to its starker, crisper nature - vocally-speaking.
The Release: It sounds pretty much flawless to my ears, with a few cracks and pops here and there that somehow add intimacy to an already deeply intimate and personal release. The cover and packaging are nice and the disc itself is bold in its red colour and opacity. A perfect extra treat from one of Sufjan's most enduring eras.
