You Have What It Takes is an outstanding tune. Superbly written and perfectly sung by Morten. Just brilliant. Well done a-ha.

Edited one year agoRewards repeat listens. It's growing on me a LOT. It's obviously not A-ha synth style 85 or even Minor Earth Major Sky, but something new and different. It's not entirely acoustic, not entirely orchestral and not entirely without some electronica, but blended together to make a great organic sounding album. Morten steals the show (as always). Dynamic range is crushed as per usual these days on the CD version, but it's not too loud.

Edited 2 years agoAs a strong a-ha fan, I must say that I am let down with this album. Far away from a keeper. I like synth a-ha. I like "The Bandstand". I like "Mythomania". I like dark lyrics. I like when Pal Waaktaar writes the 95% of tracks, with his melancholic songwriting and Morten and Mags being left with one or two. That's a-ha for me. That would be a classic again. Listening to this album, to me (my opinion) it was a huge misstep... Orchestra? For the love of almighty God... guys, don't grow up, please. Stay the way you were. This is not for the average synth lover a-ha fan. Even Analogue is better than this, big time (Analogue had a lot of acoustic stuff). The orchestra really ruined for me. I don't think a-ha should quit. No. Just get on track again and give us a proper a-ha album, the a-ha we all love and nurtured for decades. True North is a downer. Even Morten's Wild Seed is 100 times better than this. I don't know, perhaps I'm too persnickety. But then, when a-ha releases something - I would expect it is true a-ha. Not a combined solo effort with collaborations. Please, a-ha, bring on now "True a-ha". Cheers. Love you, band of my heart. I'm out, for now.

Edited 2 years agoWonderful collection of songs...as a-ha mature as people and as a band, there is a beautiful sense of wisdom and wistfulness in the songs. Bumblebee, Hunter in the Hills...are fine songs. What I liked was how Morten Harket's infinite talents unify the distinct identity Pal Waaktaar's and Magne Furuholmen's compositions carry. A surprising and magical song is Oh My Word. The tune and Morten's singing is just lovely.

Morten's voice is far from what it used to be, and this bad attempt is just sad. Some people don't know when they should quit, and he is one of them.
