Notes
Initial German releases were housed in a fragile, easily damageable gatefold sleeve, with the outside made of laminated cardboard and the inside made of printed paper pasted on the cardboard. These sleeves were replaced around 1970 with a more stable one showing a different catalog number (2612 002), see The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Electric Ladyland. The front cover shows an image of the group and the rear a red and yellow photo of Hendrix's head; the cover with nude girls only appeared still later.
Though not indicated by the side specification (both records are marked as having an A- and B-side), the release is auto-coupled. Hence the track listing printed on the rear does not match that of the labels.
The runouts are mostly stamped. On side A and B, the 8 has been scratched through and replaced by an etched 8. The last 2 on side A is etched. On side C the B has been scratched through and replaced by an etched A; the last A is also etched. On side D "184184 B" is stamped on a higher line with "613009 B" etched underneath, followed by a scratched-out string. The C is rotated 90°s on each side on the first record, so are the D and F on the second record.

I am very much surprised that nobody is screaming around that this version is pressed from the same stampers as UK 1st pressing Track release. If you don't care about the nude ladies cover and you care about the sound first then it is the most affordable way to get the 1st pressing sound at affordable price and on best German quality vinyl. Highly recommended!

Packaging is super flimsy and fragile which is annoying, but the discs sound great. Ofc the album has always sounded pretty muddy at points and this press doesn’t fix that but the good sounding songs sound even better here.

Edited 3 months agoThis sounds fantastic!!! I don’t have the 1st UK which I hear is the standard with the 2010 Marino the newer favorite. I can’t imagine this sounding much more vibrant and clear. This stereo album this is way ahead of its time. This 1968 German original press or the 1970 German repress might be the way to go for an original / close to original if that is what you prefer. I also like the 2018 Bernie. The original US and subsequent 1970s represses don’t compete.

I have a 1968 German, possibly one of the variant #2’s. This is mind-blowing incredible sound quality easily destroys the 5-6 other versions I have including later U.S. issues and the 2010. I have no idea if this is first UK stampers but it literally sounds so damn incredible (and dead quiet too!) I think it might be. Wow!!!!

I don't believe that the second matrix variant applies to this very first press. First variant uses UK track stampers = 613008A//1
