Recorded throughout time in Detroit, London and Eindhoven. Compiled and mastered at electronic music laboratories of aural sciences.
Text on front cover from Jeff Sawell reads:
Revolutionary art is not determined by its avantgarde content; nor its formal or technical trickery, its interpretation of reality or its verisimilitude, but, rather, by how much it revolutionises our thinking and imagination; overturning our preconceptions, bias and prejudice and inspiring us to change ourselves and the world...
The following text appears on the inside sleeve and is the closing vocals at the end of track 15:
Paint will be spilled with the color of blood. This blood signifies all the minds that will be lost in the revolution.
This is not a revolution against governments...
This is a revolution against ignorance... Detroit 1997

I still listen to this album regularly and have very fond memories of playing televised green smoke to a good friend of mine back in the 90s sometime. The off-kilter percussion of the intro is brought together by the detroit-y pads. By the time the stevie wonder (electronic) bass kicks its time to go nuts!
My friend said this tune could've only be made by a black man. I think he's right. There's a whole lot of soul in this track. -
Edited 20 years agoThis is the best album of arguably the most talanted producer in electronic music. Its the kind of album you would play to anyone who has preconceptions that machine music lacks the soul or emotional depth of acoustic music. For me this is an album that rates with the best releases on Motown. Hopefully one day it will be rediscovered and given the plaudits that it richly deserves. Listen to 'Domina' and 'At Les' are drift into another world...

This, in my opinion, is the greatest record to come out of Detroit. 6 years on, it still sounds so fresh and original. Carl Craig is probably my favourite artist, I wish he would make more music like this, pure electronic soul.
Also, for the braver DJ's out there, try playing out 'Televised Green Smoke' - goes down a storm to the right crowd. -
Timeless, lovely and revolutionary. The reason for many of us waking up and realizing that we could make music ourselves, by our own standards and using technology in a soulful manner. Still one of my favorites.
