Notes
In November of 2021 VMP alerted club there was a manufacturing error in the pressing of the 2nd LP (Side C/D) and it caused surface noise issues. After an investigation they located the issue and found that it affected the entire pressing of this title. In March of 2022 a replacement Side C/D LP was sent to all Club who received the original release in a generic white VMP Sleeve.

Maybe VMP has ironed out the problems with their first pressing of this, but the copy I just got today sounds great. Almost no noise, no appreciable sibilance. Clean and flat.
-
Similar to other reviews, my two records were warped and suffered from some noise. Mastering wasn’t bad, just the overall quality of press was “off”.

Edited 2 years agoNot VMP's best effort by any means. The master sounds compressed and has distortion issues. You can hear the "S's" on top of Andre and Big Boi's voices on certain tracks like Jazzy Belle and Babylon. Not sure if that's partially to do with the actual audio limitations of mastering those particular tracks. (Just an FYI, don't worry about the crackle you hear on Mainstream. That's part of the music.)
As for the pressing, my copy at least has some crackles, even after a wet cleaning. Classic GZ warp with both discs as well. None of the reported non-fill issues with the C/D disc, however.
I also didn't realize that the original CD release came with a comic illustration, so with that missing from this issue it definitely leaves things to be desired for an "exclusive" pressing. -
My favorite Outkast album and a very good VMP Hip-Hop release apart from the issues with Disc 2 which VMP fixed easily for everyone. Top!

Recived a replacement C/D record before i even played my first copy. Played both when i recived the replacement and the second one sounded a lot better. I would say that everything is great about the copy but it would be perfect if the replacement record didn't have a slightly different tone in color compared to the original ones.

Edited 2 years agoVMP is still shipping out crappy side C/D apparently, my copy has surface noise throughout the beginning of side D. Recently picked this record up through swaps and probably won't play it again. It also has pretty bad distortion throughout the last track on side A Jazzy Bells. The OG pressing has Jazzy Bells as the first track on side B, which I think was a smart call since the recording is already predisposed to sibilant vocals. It still slurs a bit on the OG, but not nearly as bad as on this VMP press.
I will say though, when it sounds good it sounds good. Solid dynamics and separation. Just wish side C wasn't ruined.
OG press sounds better overall, but is significantly more expensive.
Edit: VMP sent me a new copy after I requested store credit (lol) figuring they all had side D surface noise issues, but this new one does not, so they got it right the second time. Still has issues with Jazzy Bells, but it's a significant improvement. OG still wins. -
I recently ed VMP, and got this through a swap as I didn't like what I was slated to receive. The whole album sounds great... but I wound up with a mislabeled second record, with a side 4 label on the third side. No sound issues on the record though!

My copy is flawless, sounds great and has no QC issues. I can't compare to the other reissues but I'm happy, especially getting it on sale with VMP $25 off promo.
