I have an original and now this one and yes the original does sound better but it's still not an audiophile recording. As for the songs this is definitely a metal debut classic that's for sure. Ear music has done good job with all of the artwork on the Savatage reissues but the music is of average quality and it varies within the titles. This is not one the better ones but I do dig that turquoise vinyl.

Just got a brand new copy. Straight out of the shrinkwrap, track 1 on both sides skip all over the place. Anyone else have this problem?

After comparing both this new pressing and my first Combat pressing (https://discogs.programascracks.com/release/2001695-Savatage-Sirens), the best way I can put it is that this new pressing sounds sterile :/ There is a decent amount of bass reduction, and unfortunately a lot of loudness normalization. The drums aren't nearly as prominent, and a lot of the quieter parts are brought up in volume. Loudness war? You bet! But on the bright side, it seems to be done (at least mostly) tastefully, without and hard clipping making the transfer to the vinyl itself.
My copy of Dungeons seems to be about the same, and the single for The Hourglass sounds noticeably worse than both the 2014 Wake of Magellan issue. I ed earMusic to see if they had any comment on their audio source or method for remastering "specifically for vinyl", and never received a response. I have a feeling this "Remastered for vinyl" is a hype line, with no real value to it. -
Edited 3 years agoAwful quality control on these reissues. My copy has massive scratches all over side 1, it looks like someone kicked it across a hardwood floor. Needless to say it's completely unplayable. My red vinyl of Dungeons Are Calling is damaged too, and even has a dead fly inside the wax, causing a little bump on the vinyl itself which skips. Neither EarMusic nor the shop I bought it from will refund me or send a replacement either. Over $100 wasted on unplayable "new" records. I think these companies just crap these things out as fast as possible and don't even bother to check for damage.

My copy plays perfect and sounds phenomenal. Cut from the original AAA Analog Master Tape it's just perfect. Highly recommended.

Edited 3 years agoThe packaging is very cool but I'm disappointed with this pressing as my copy (after a thorough cleaning with my record cleaning machine) has lots of surface noise present.
