A fantastic pressing with a wonderful soundstage; like Herbie and the band are in the room. The slowly building synth chord at the start of 'Sleeping Giant' packs a real punch here as does the keys, guitars & percussion throughout this album.

In comparison to the other review... this album kicks arse. The epic "Sleeping Giant" goes from frenzied percussion, through hard-out jazz rock, experimental free-time ages, damn fine jazz funk in 3/4, and the ending - fantastic strange, eerie noises from either Eddie Henderson, Julian Priester and Bennie Maupin. Then... 'Quasar' takes us into even more exploratory stuff, and is my favourite on the album... collapses into more experimental terrain. Patrick Gleeson's synths are all over the map on this one, which makes it so much better. This tune is actually quite carefully arranged - gets more and more intricate with each listen, but never gets old. And, the bluesy "Water Torture", rounds off the album.... this has some rich, kick arse Mellotron and synth parts (the best mellotrons weren't always in prog rock!), and more free-time avant-jazz-fusion madness. One of the best examples of space-age jazz funk to exist. check out the more free-floating "Mwandishi" album, and the even more experimental "Sextant" for more goodness.
