Edited 2 years agoI am a big fan of this album but I don't like Steven Wilson mix.Not because I've been listening to the original mix all my life, but because this one is too clean for me. Clinically clean.Like no feelings in it.Something doesn't feel right to me. It has no soul and it's not in harmony. Vienna sounds like a dysfunctional family to me. That's my opinion, of course.

My copy skipped like crazy on side one. I had to fight with the record store to get a second one, that one skipped too but less so and I was able to get it to play by cleaning the record. So if your copy skips, you aren't alone.

As others reviewers have already mentioned, great pressing, sub-par job on the artwork; should have been a gatefold edition, plus lack of liner notes and code are just plain lazy. Love Steve Wilson’s work, and great job by Alchemy Mastering.

ALCHEMY nails it. The rest of the packaging is a disappointment. Too tight to slide a pair of LPs in readily, should have been a gatefold. Cheap paper on the cover doesn't help flimsy feel. 40th Anniversary & RSD = should have tried harder.

What a great surprise the instrumental version is !!! I can’t believe how this album sounds like without a monotonous voice. The compositions are amazing.
How pathetic though that so little care was given to packaging and information. Even the basics of a printed inner sleeve are missing. If this continues Vinyl revival will be no more…. -
First version of this I’ve ever gotten and I’m pretty f’in surprised at how good these songs are as instrumentals. Initially my impression was that disc two was essentially fluff but damn... these songs are awesome without vocals. Sure wish I held off buying on RSD though. Could have gotten for half as much a week later. RSD is such a load of sh*t at this point and I feel like a sucker

Instruments go in and out of the mix on the right channel on ing Strangers thru end A, all of side B. Faulty pressing and will be returning. (NOTE: I did not listen to the 2nd LP of instrumentals).

In my opinion this is a surprisingly bad version, lacks dynamics and range. Compared to W. German pressing from Ariola I would say that from 10-25% of music is missing, this becomes very pronounce with song Western promise, I thought that my amp had gone bad. I've tested it with two different cartridges and I got same result. It's going to the shelf as a collectors piece but probably will never listen to it again, maybe only for demonstration of how bad it is.
