Because a huge conglomerate owns this IP, they have no idea what anything is truly worth. UME ran a 1-day sale and I got this for $15, a steal. Three times that amount would be fair because of the music alone, although I do have some philosophical problems with reissues of old pop releases going for modern money. I know, easy for me to say.
More than just a great remaster and pressing, this was a rediscovery for me, having not heard this in many years and certainly never this good (I do NOT own older "good" copies).
If you like The Who but don't yet know Sell Out, buy this without regret. -
How the median price of this is $12 is mind boggling. This is without question the finest pressing of this album I've heard. Fantastic packaging as well.
-
I will echo what others have said. This may or may not be the definitive pressing of this excellent album, but it sounds terrific and can be had for a great price.

Edited 8 months agoCompared to the newer Abbey 1/2 Speed this one is cut abit louder and seems to have a tad more lower mid bloom but also its definately not quite as smooth in the very uppers or quite as expansive of soundstage. They are both very good cuts and superbly pressed (the 1/2 Speed has slightly narrower grooves and more deadwax) but once level matched the 1/2 Speed just about wins out to my ears. Had i not bought the 1/2 Speed id probably be more than happy with this cut especially due to the second disc (mostly very quiet) and better packaging. Its entirely possible some may prefer this cut via their ears through their system.

this pressing sounds amazing and for the price I got it, $11 on double heavyweight vinyl and the inserts, feels like a steal. i’d pay $25 for this without a second thought. Great album and top notch packaging. I should have bought more to give to friends.
-
I got this for, like, $11, so I'm happy with it anyway. However, I think the first record sounds... Quite bright. Like, had to turn down the speakers cuz it was hurting my ears bright. The pressing quality itself is fantastic, however, and the second record sounds sublime. I think this just comes down to a strange remaster perhaps, but it doesn't hamper my enjoyment of the album. Just be wary

This is missing two bonus tracks from the 1995 reissue, essential ones imo: Melancholia and Glow Girl. If you like this record and haven't heard them, you should seek them out. Aside from that, as someone who grew up with the 1995 reissue I think this record is a near perfect release and they're practically giving it away.
-
Believe the superlatives. The only, and I mean the only way this release could have been improved would be a poly-lined inner sleeve instead of the slick thin cardboard. Of course, if you care about these things you can get a quality 3mil poly sleeve from the vendors online. Music? This is power pop as conceived by The Who. The transitional album that is also a conceptual masterpiece. When this was released Robert Christgau announced that they were the third best band in the UK. As this release is pressed by Optimal, the price is ridiculous. You can't even buy a good sandwich for what this is going for.
