Edited 9 months agoI bought this record solely on the fact that Happy Verbs was on Thunderdome X, my first Hardcore Gabber CD. I like Happy Verbs as its Happy Gabber: hard, fast but not overly cheesy. A fairly standard 909 bassdrum and quick but catchy synth stabs, I like how the two stabs are cut together in the last breakdown. But really it's the nice piano riff sampled from Circa '91 - Can You Feel Me that elevates the tune. Even the chipmunk vocals are charming. I've always wondered if the title is in anyway related to or referencing Happy Vibes by Scott The Scotchman Brown. "Fun" fact: Happy is not a Verb, but there are many positive verbs in the English language.
My Favorite is not my favourite on this record. I guess My Favorite (I really want to spell it Favourite, though its better then Favorit!) is best known for being on Thunderdome XI. I've never really liked it as it's too saccharine for my blood. But I'm sure it has fans, possibly in . There's a slightly unusual French pressing of this record with a glorious record cover! DJ's Message is there, it exists. To be fair, the middle synth section is ever so marginally above average. It appears on the Digital Overdose 95 CD under the banner of Ultimate Hardcore, while that's baffling, clearly somebody at ID&T (probably DJ X-Ess) liked it.
I always thought the name European Rave Records was a strong name for a record label, like it carried more weight to it, clever marketing I guess. I've always liked the name Discofrisco. :) Taking an educated guess based on the Thunderdome appearances, the record must have come out August or September 1995. Somebody in Australia must have liked this duo (or got a bulk discount from Boju Records), as a few of their tunes appear on this rare Australian CD. I seeing this CD in 1996 and was tempted to buy it because I liked Happy Verbs.
