Edited one year agoAfter sticking it to "Warner Bros." with "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World" hit, "The Artist" released the compilation, "1-800-New-Funk" through "Bellmark Records"...This time, I don't think "Warner" was really concerned with this one though....
It's not the best of material, but it does have it's moments....
The best song on here is obviously "Love Sign" with "The Artist" featuring "Nona Gaye" (Daughter of the one and only "Marvin Gaye")...
There is also "Hollywood" by Dr. Funkenstein himself "George Clinton"....
There are other songs by "Mayte" (If I Love U Tonight), "Mavis Staples" (You Will Be Moved), a little known group called "MPLS" (Minneapolis), and "Margie Cox", who was at one time "Ta Mara and The Seen" fame (Standing At The Altar)....
There is also a "Madhouse" t on here in "17", then there "Nona Gaye" again with her version of "Bobby Womack's", "A Woman's Gotta Have It"....
So even if this is not terrible, it is not groundbreaking either....
"Said_Head" might be completely right, I am sure only puriest (like myself) will only be interested....
