Received my copy today. Flat, no anomalies and sounds fantastic!
Not one complaint here. "Set The Controls" is quite stunning.
Love both the stereo and mono, but the mono mix on here wins by some margine.
I am sure like the 2022 mono reissue of 'Piper" that 'Saucerful' 2022 mono will be from the same plates as the 2019. Enjoy whatever copy you have!!! -
I see a lot of people here jumping on the "mono mix is way better than stereo" bandwagon but I think you should really give both of them a try. Some of the stereo mixes can be sloppy (e.g. A Day) but some of the mono tracks are missing elements that are present in the stereo version, and vice versa. Let There Be More Light has the whole band playing in the fadeout instead of just the guitar and cymbals, Set The Controls also has a longer fadeout and the title track sounds interesting in it's own way with heavier drum sounds too but there's elements missing from "Corporal Clegg", like a whole guitar track and even a bit in the song where it sounds like a different take is edited in and it's pretty jarring whereas the stereo version plays through fluidly. Some of Syd's backing vocals are missing on Jugband Blues too (In the la-la-la-la section) so yeah, this mix is very much different and stands out as it's own in a lot of ways but I wouldn't necessarily call it better. Both have some really good strong points. The 2019 LP is the best value for money you're going to get if you want the mono but my pressing has some pretty poor QC with some heavy crackle and pops in places. My original UK mono plays cleaner but it's a little less dynamic and little bit more compressed towards the inner grooves, it does have really rich midrange though. Both sound solid, though!

Edited 3 years agoAnyone in any doubt that the mono version is a completely different mix, as opposed to bounced down from the stereo mix, should be aware that Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun is about 20 seconds longer than on the original stereo LP and also lacks the "pig-squealing" noises on the fade.
-
Play the stereo version after the Mono, you might only want the mono version. Mono seems the way that this was designed to be heard. Mighty addition to the Floyd catalogue, just a bad Faux cover, so un Floyd

I was really happy to get a copy on RSD and the this: big scratch on Side 1 Track2 :-(
Quality check really sucks. This must not happen at any new pressing, but especially not on the more expensive limited RSD Releases. -
Edited 6 years agoListening to my copy now. Sounds great. And all the correct tracks are there.
I wish they would have gone all out with the cover as they did with Piper, but other than that, I'm very happy with this. Despite having to buy it from discogs at a higher price. -
Edited 6 years agogreat album no doubt, the cover is a cheap repro from the Floyd. bad Faux cover, it deserved more

Fantastic lp....mono or stereo it is a masterpiece. It is more tripping in mono in my opinion. I hope one day they will include Vegetable Man and Scream thy last scream, two real gems from a real musical genius.

I purchased an extra USA version of this RSD, was looking to see if anyone wanted to trade an EU pressing for it?
-
Fine product. Guess it will be readily available soon in non RSD format. Nothing "special" about this pressing though. Don't pay scalper prices. Not worth it and they are DIRTBAGS.
