Why was Space Intro deleted from this UK release? I’m so conditioned to hearing it before Fly Like an Eagle.

This UK press sounds so delightful, just a clear, open, powerfull sound. I really love it ! Great job !

I really wasn't expecting this to sound quite so progressive and psychedelic, this nearly went in the outpile after sitting neglected on the shelf for 10+ years. Nothing like the singles and well worth a spin.

Along with the poppy 'Abaracadabra', 'Fly Like An Eagle' is one of Steve Miller's best loved albums and should probably be in any vinyl enthusiasts collection. He is best possibly best ed for stoner's delight song 'The Joker' but Steve Miller's mid seventies opus begins with a wash of space age synthesisers. It is so seventies you can practically taste the decade, reminding the listener of Pink Floyd or Jean Michel Jarre: but essentially this is a hook to lead into the reasonably funky 'Fly Like An Eagle'. Side one is linked like this - each song a delight - funky, poppy and with hints of folk rock.
Has the album got a theme? The listener can pick up on references to the future, space, time travel - but I think this is grounded by the sparse instrumentation. The album is underscored by synthesiser 'wash' used to segue / mix tracks and give it a concept album feel. This was a typical mid seventies trick but here it feels nice rather than over pretentious. Steve Miller's vocals are understated and pleasant. The percussion is used sparsely. The instrumentation has an acoustic feel rather than rock but the tracks are sequenced in such a way that the listener is always surprised and delighted.
This is a really enjoyable listen and well worth owning.
