my copy of this is really crackly and noisy. is this a common problem with this record? -

Edited 4 years agoMore a curio than a record to listen to. That's my take on this significant recording by Faust. The Lilith re-master and pressing is fine and the quality of the clear X-ray sleeve is authentic, but it doesn't reward repeated playing.
Sure this 1971 outing may have been a milestone in the development of the innovative Krautrock genre, however it doesn't stand the test of time in the way the contemporaneous records of Can, Cluster, Kraftwerk and Neu! have.
Too often I fall into the trap of seeking out records people rave about as being groundbreaking to find I only will ever play them a couple of times... Ornette Coleman's "Free Jazz", Miles Davis' "Bitches Brew", Soft Machine's 1970 double "Third", Captain Beefheart's "Trout Mask Replica". This is another of those records I've sought out only to be disappointed. -
how does this version sound? I've heard that keeping it in the clear sleeve will discolor the record, but does it affect the sound quality?

Found it in Toulouse (), strange for a russian reissue, but... This album's so fuckin' good !!

Edited 10 years agoBought this reissue when it came out, and pulled it out recently to discover that the PVC sleeve had fogged the record. Didn't end up damaging playability all that much, but it's a good idea to not keep this record in the clear sleeve.
