Edited one year agoFor some reason, only Path 7 is available on Tidal. Listening to it now - and really like the use of (what I think is) Rachel's theme from Blade Runner around 6:30 and how it morphs into something almost industrial af 7:20.

Although starting with the best intentions, Record Store Day has mostly become a time for labels to reissue records and make a bit of cash as a result. And while there are undoubtedly some people out there who'll appreciate a re-pressing of an out of print album, it's unfortunately mostly become an opportunity to take advantage of collectors.
FSOL's approach is irably different. Instead of simply reissuing old releases, they've instead chosen to take older tracks, re-record them and use them as a basis to revisit previous themes and ideas. The first in the series is 2018's My Kingdom Re-Imagined. Having been one of their most successful singles, from 1996, it seems like a strong place to reapproach old material. The album opens with a recreation of the album version, with the earlier samples recreated by guest performances, which then gradually morphs into rhythmic glitches and analogue synth arpeggios, blending '90s FSOL with the group's modern sound. Most of the rest of the record is built around a new piano theme, which appears over several ambient pieces as well as a couple of new tracks, combined with the original's drum and flute elements, and occasional appearances of the vocal line. The result is a much warmer, more organic release than the dark, paranoid sounding 1996 single, and one that ties in, atmospherically, with the 2010 album Environments 3. Initially it might seem a bit disted, but repeat listens reveal subtle connections between the bulk of the tracks, resulting in a cohesive listen that rewards deep listening.
To circumvent the false-scarcity of Record Store Day releases, a CD edition - with two excellent bonus tracks - has since been released, giving the release wider availability and a much needed gap-free version. As a result, FSOL manage to circumvent the worst aspects of Record Store Day releases and create and excellent and worthwhile release in its own right. -

Record Store Day 2018. I’m not running to the Store because there’s not any chance this album was going to be anywhere near my home. I’m realistic you know. I tried it for two years and gave up. Belgium is just not ready for the music I like. A few days later a small mail from FSOLdigital. There were some copies left from RSD. E-Voila. This Version builds further on the 1996 EP starting with Path 7 You get the same eclectic mix of Electronica, Psychedelic Rock and standout FSOLadelica!! No need to say more!!!

Does anyone else hear what sounds like a bad edit clip at the very start of the kick drum sample on Path 8? I find it slightly distracting. Great release tho.

Finally got it. Re-imagination really surprised me, had high expectations on this new version of My Kingdom and have to say that was worth the wait! Top production! Good signs...waiting for the next Amorphous Androgynous album - apparently for 2019 - this year we will get a longform single from them also.

I wasn't going to buy this on RSD but saw it was the last copy and temptation bit and so glad I did.
Gorgeous quiet black vinyl as dark as a moonless night.
This should be a lesson to labels on how to make a pristine, 3d,clear and precise record.
I don't really know a massive amount of FSOL (Papua New Guinea and Lifeforms) but found this quite interesting.
I suppose you could call it a mini LP rather than an EP. but saying that my only problem with it is that it could have been a lot longer because just as you get into it.......The end.

Beautiful record, pressed very clean and clear. I love the Dead Cities era of FSOL, so this was a welcomed release to me. Very happy to have grabbed a copy.
