Completely agree with comments below. This just does not sound good. Muffled, no dynamics. I have this European reissue https://discogs.programascracks.com/release/3139274-Tom-Waits-Closing-Time which is both cheaper and better.

Edited 3 months agoWonderful album. A 2am special. After six large whiskies you might not notice, but this is indeed a lousy pressing. The crackling on I Hope That I Don’t Fall In Love With You is so noticeable that it almost feels deliberate. And the vocals are muffled.
As I say, at 2am you might not notice, but it’s a shame nonetheless. Compare this to the recent Mule Variations Silver edition and it’s night and day. -
Get the 2010 Rhino press. I don't think I've ever heard such a night and day difference in quality between these new(er) pressings.

Agh I have to agree with everyone, this is one of my favourite records but this pressing isn't great. Quite a flat sound, no dynamics at all.
It's not *terrible*, I'll keep it until I find an older copy, but I wouldn't recommend seeking this one out. -
Muffled and muddy - I paid a really low price New - and I love the all of the songs = not sure whether to return it and look for an original - sad for such a landmark album
-
Really really disappointing issue, not sure what TW actually had to do with the remastering here but it sounds terrible. It's a digital source but that's not the worst of it, a very distant and veiled sound. Avoid!
-
Hi folks! Sad enough, but this RE is really not worth the money. Sounds muddy, like from a very bad digital source, no dynamics, the voice and music somwhere behind a curtain. Side A of my copy ist crackeling throughout. Side B slightly better, but even the pressing is far from beeing o.k. What a shame.

Bad remaster. I have original and 1979 German Re-issue - both soundings bright and clear. This remaster sounding like from a long pipeline. Very sad.
