The opinions about the sound of this vinyl are not contradictory by chance. There is a lot to be said here:
1- The drums are overall the most forward instrument in the mix, the loudest. Followed by the bass, and only then the guitars. Is this a major problem? Not always. However, the great bass tones right after "your lack of abilities" (in Mentally Blind) do not shine as much as they could have, because the drums are too loud there. A similar situation occurs with the drums drowning out the guitars in the chorus at the end of "Out of Touch". So, yes, the drums are sometimes too loud.
2- The guitars DO sound muddy in a few places. Examples include the chorus at the end of "Jealousy" and the first riff with vocals in "The Philosopher" ("Do you feel what I feel...."). This does not mean that they are muddy all the time.
3- The echo used on Chuck's vocals has been removed ("Obsession..." & "Nothing... is everything"). This was probably done out of necessity, but it affects the experience a bit.
4- Due to the occasional muddiness and the excessively dominant drums, this is the worst-sounding Death LP I own.And I own at least one pressing of each. Still, it would be a lie to say it just sounds terrible.

    So there you have it.

Unlike the other Death reissues from Relapse, the remix and remaster aren't good on this one. I understand that the original production sounded flat, but things are much worse here imho. The drum is in your face all the time and solos by Andy Larocque sounds muddy and too far away in the mix. This masterpiece deserves better.

This pressing has a more full and better sound than the rather flat sounding original, but why remove the echo on Chuck's voice that is used occasionally? To me, while that might not annoy a new fan, it ruins the original vibe and character of the album.

The album sounds excellent nice insert with photos and lyrics. The labels are nice, the first side had the band logo and the other side has a photo of the band nice for center labels imo. Definitely worth the investment if you want a vinyl copy of the album. \m/ RIP Chuck, gone but not forgotten brother cheers from Canada. \m/

The sound is much worse than the first press vinyl release. For example, you even do not hear the 'repeat echo' of the word
'obsession...' which chuck screams in the beginning of the first song at this part of the lyrics :

Existing in dimensions of addictive obsession ....

This pressing sounds killer. Absolutely no issues or problems. I'm still bummed I missed out on the box set but it's nice to own a copy on wax finally. Kudos to Relapse for shipping records outside of the covers.
